Gifts from the Heart
I thought back over my life and I remembered some gifts that had warmed the hearts of those giving as well as the recipients. Some of the best gifts in life are free or can be purchased for a little money. So make someone happy by giving them a gift from your heart. Here are a few stories that I would like to share that warm the heart as well as the soul. These gifts make impressions on the giver and receiver that last a lifetime.
Once my fiancé went on a business trip abroad for a three week period and due to the nature of the trip we were not able to communicate by phone as frequently as we were accustomed to talking to one another. I went to a card shop and purchased 21 cards and addressed one for each day that he was to be gone. I hid the cards in his suitcase all wrapped up in a beautiful gift box with instructions as to what he was to do with the cards. He told me that that was the nicest gift that he had ever received and every day he felt as if we were together even though we were miles apart. Every day I would just imagine him opening the cards and I could see the expression on his face. These cards kept us connected as well as made the time go by more quickly. By the way my fiancé is now my husband.
When my seven year old daughter went to visit her grand mother for a two week summer vacation she told me that she would miss our good night kisses. The two of us went to the store and purchased a package of kisses and she counted two sets of 14 kisses for the two of us to eat one a day for fourteen days. We agreed to eat one kiss each night for the length of time we would be away from one another. We made two kiss boxes for each of us to keep. She took her kisses to grand ma’s house and I kept mine with me. Each night we would have our kiss and brush our teeth before bed. She had a great vacation and we still shared our nightly kisses. The kisses made it all better for both of us.
A friend of ours was drafted to the army and his daughter was having a hard time with his leaving because he gave her a nightly kiss. So on the day that he left for the army he gave her a gift that contained two beautifully wrapped gift boxes. He watched her open the gift and she asked him why there is nothing in the boxes and he told her that this is because these boxes hold magical kisses and all we each have to do is put one kiss in our box. That one kiss is unlimited and then we will exchange boxes and you’ll have unlimited kisses from me and I’ll have the same from you. This means that we can get a kiss anytime that we choose. They kissed their boxes, embraced and kissed one another and he was able to leave his daughter with all of the kisses that she needed and he took as many as he needed from her. They were both happy and the boxes kept the kisses coming.
My five year old grandson hated to leave his mom and go to school. He would cry all day and be so sad. She decided to give him a magical feather from his pet bird and told him that this feather was magical and all that he had to do was wave it and she would be right by his side. It worked and now he is a happy six year old first grader and he still keeps his feather to wave when he misses her.
I would pack my teenage daughter lunch every day and besides packing all of her favorite things to eat one day a week I would pack her a note to tell her how special that she was and encourage her to keep doing her best in school. My daughter still tells me how much this encouraged her during those times and thanks her. She in turn does the same for her children and they love it!
In closing gifts should be given from the heart and there are some gifts that warm the heart and touches the very soul of the person giving the gift as well as the one on the receiving end. During these economically challenged times give a gift that last a lifetime.
